Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) Train-the-Trainer Session
Tuesday and Wednesday, June 9 and 10, 2015 in Auckland, New Zealand
We are pleased to announce a free Train-the-Trainer workshop for the “Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics” (CHIA).
There will be a one day version of the training on Wednesday June 10 and a two day version on June 9 and 10.
This certification program is being offered globally to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as professors through a joint effort between the Educational Institute (AH&LEI) and STR Global. Nearly 3,000 CHIA certifications have been granted, and this will be the 35th TTT workshop conducted. We appreciate Peter Kim and the staff of AUT for hosting this workshop.
The “Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics” is the leading hotel-related certification for university students graduating from Hospitality and Tourism programs. This recognition provides evidence of a thorough knowledge of the foundational metrics, definitions, formulas, and methodologies that are used by the hotel industry. Recipients have proven that they can “do the math” and interpret the results. They have demonstrated an ability to analyze various types of hotel industry data and to make strategic inferences based upon that analysis. Certification also confirms a comprehensive understanding of benchmarking and performance reports. Recipients have a grasp of the current landscape of the hotel industry, including relevant current events. Achieving this distinction announces that these students have a place among the best graduates in their profession and opens the doors to future career opportunities. Recipients receive a certificate and are able to use the CHIA designation on their business cards and resumes.
The Train-the-Trainer session is for professors, instructors and school administrators. Senior level students (graduate students, research assistants) are welcome to attend if space permits. The session introduces the CHIA training content, which includes:
Hotel Industry Analytical Foundations
Hotel Math Fundamentals, the metrics used by the Hotel Industry
Property Level Benchmarking
Hotel Industry Performance Reports
The session also prepares instructors to be able to present the CHIA training to their students at their own schools. It is easy to personalize the training related to your own country or city or any area of the world that you are interested in studying. Instructors can receive the CHIA certification themselves by taking an online exam after the session.
One and Two Day Versions of the Training
Participants will receive the training materials prior to the Train-the-Trainer session so they can review the content ahead of time if they wish.
On Tuesday June 9, we will introduce all of the training content. On Wednesday June 10, we will quickly review the content and discuss how to present the training to students. Then we will demonstrate each of the application exercises where participants gain hands-on experience working with data and where the training material is reinforced. If you have the time available, it would be great to come for both days. If not, you will still benefit from just coming on Wednesday.
Workshop Location and Times
The session will be conducted at AUT campus in Auckland. Exact location details will be available soon. The room will open at 8:00 am and the training will start at 8:30 am each day. The workshop will end at 5:00 pm. Dress code is informal, so feel free to dress comfortably for the class.
Cost is free
The cost of the Train-the-Trainer session and the certification is free for instructors. There is a simple form to fill out. All of the CHIA training programs and supporting materials are provided to a school at no charge through the SHARE Center program. (The cost of the certification for students is just $75 USD and need-based scholarships are available.)
